SUMMARY:DENISE AMBER LEE TRAGEDY
DESCRIPTION:Nathan Lee\, founder and President of the Denise Amber Lee Foundation\, and Geoff Weiss\, dispatch supervisor for the San Diego Sheriff’s Department tie together the elements of the Denise Amber Lee tragedy. A positive and uplifting presentation\, students will learn of the obvious failures that day to the more in-depth concepts such as leadership\, hiring\, training and encouraging employees in a communications center. \nThe Denise Amber Lee Foundation was launched in June 2008 as a result of the January 2008 tragic abduction and murder of Denise. The Foundation is a non-profit initiative of Denise’s widowed husband\, Nathan\, who felt the need to honor the memory of his beloved wife. The amazing response of the community and individuals to this senseless tragedy touched Nathan and his family so deeply that he felt compelled to return that support by helping improve the 911 system.

SUMMARY:REWIND
DESCRIPTION:PowerPhone’s Rewind course has been developed to prevent or relieve many of the emotional pitfalls that filter into the Communications Center. When problems are evident\, it may lead to employee regression\, frustration\, and sometimes depression. Left unattended\, these factors impact performance and wholesome human relations. The course is formatted by the instructor\, who felt the burden of many mistakes and blamed the system. Taking into account the “blame game\,” he lost much of his ambition for taking on responsibility. \nThis course will provide public safety personnel with a clear focus on individualization as it pertains to the overall status of “self.” Telecommunication professionals often become disillusioned and lose focus on their obligations. Most importantly\, some individuals have a tendency to contaminate co-workers within the work environment\, which proliferates back to those closest to them. This course serves to help change behavior before it’s too late for the individual worker and/or agency.
